Learning by doing

Preparatorycourse.com offers an online learning environment for your individual development in becoming an art and design professional.

All courses and trainings are practical lessons where you will physically work on art and design works in your own, familiar environment. The assignments and course components are tailored to your individual level as much as possible. The aim of all courses and trainings is to make the best possible preparation for entering a study at an art and design program at a university (bachelor level).

From exploring your creativity till studying at an art and design academy.

There is no age limit for the offered training courses and there is also no pre-selection in which you have to prove your artistic talent. However, it is wise to start at an age that you can already work independently on your artwork.

Every person is different

Because everyone is different, personal guidance has been chosen, which is tailored to your individual needs. In all lessons, training courses and classes you will be guided live and online by a teacher. The portfolio interviews are also live conversations. The range of training courses is designed to support you in your current situation in preparation for (remote) admission to the Art and Design Academy.

Preparatorycourse.com provides portfolio reviews, admission trainings, a summer class and two preparatory courses: Regular and Compact.

Which training or course suits your situation?

Is studying at a college of art and design the right choice?

If you want to find out whether studying at an art academy is something for you - and whether the way in which lessons are taught suits you - then you can get started with the Summer Class or one of the Preparatory Courses.

Do you know which study (major) you will choose?

You already have creative work, but you don't know which direction you want to choose. With professional assignments and discussions of your work you can find this out during the Preparatory Courses or the Summer Class.

Am I sufficiently prepared to pass the (remote) admissions in one go?

You already have enough work for a portfolio and you know which major you want to study, but you have no - or maybe negative - experiences of the admission procedure. The best preparation to get accepted in one go is the Admission Training.

Does my portfolio already show sufficient artistic quality?

Do you already have creative work for a portfolio and would you like advice on how to best shape it, or do you want to expand it specifically for a specific study program? Then a Portfolio Review is a smart choice.

About

The Preparatory Course was set up by Norman Beierle, who has continuously supervised students for twelve years since the establishment of the Preparatory Courses at the Willem de Kooning Academy. Partly due to the continuous development and alignment with the target group, strong and effective courses have been created, which not only guarantee the influx of new students to the WdKA, but also ensured a high-quality level of the new generation of students, who were able to immediately apply their newly acquired skills successfully to the assignments in the first year.

Due to the loss of the physical and online courses at the WdKA, a certain vacuum has arisen. By offering a new line of online courses, Norman Beierle provides continuity to everyone who wants to prepare for work within visual arts and design.

Everyone is welcome. The courses have no restrictions in terms of age and/or education level. If you are able to be present online, you are very welcome.

Norman Beierle completed his studies at the Christian University of Visual Arts Constantijn Huygens in Kampen (now Artez) and has been working independently as a visual artist (in 2-D and 3-D) since 1995. Between 2012 and 2024 he worked at the Willem de Kooning Academy as a teacher for the preparatory courses and as an assessor for the admissions.
